Special Briefing Dallas September 2015
"Hunt and Its Consortium's Plan for Oncor"
On August 10, 2015, Energy Future Holdings filed a motion with the United State Bankruptcy Court that announced its selection of a proposal by Hunt and a consortium of investors as its preferred solution out of bankruptcy.
Under the proposed plan, EFH will spin out its competitive businesses, including Luminant and TXU Energy, to existing creditors. Hunt and the consortium of investors will then acquire EFH’s interest in its regulated delivery business, Oncor, and restructure it into a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Hunt has successfully operated this REIT structure in the Texas electric utility market since December 2009. This proposal will be reviewed by the bankruptcy court in the coming months, and a regulatory application related to the change in control of Oncor is expected to be filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas in late September.
Our speaker is Pat Wood III, Principal for Wood3 Resources and former Chairman of both the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. For several years, Pat has worked as a senior strategic advisor to Hunt and its affiliate, Sharyland Utilities, to help develop projects that provide needed investment in our nation’s electric grid.
Pat will provide a briefing of the plan put forward by Hunt and its consortium, specifically as it relates to the future of Oncor, as well as the upcoming regulatory review by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
