Austin November 2022 Luncheon

"Briefing: Non-Profit DER Registry"

Speaker: Michael Jewell
Attorney, Jewell & Associates

Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are changing virtually every aspect of the energy value chain and grid operations. Lessons learned around the world in Australia, Germany, California, and others have clearly identified the need for a DER Registry that can provide all stakeholders a common point of reference for DERs. Where is it? What is it? What can it do? Who owns it? Without a foundational data set that can be shared and accessed by ISOs/RTOs, Utilities, Aggregators, Regulatory Authorities, Consumers, etc., DERs fail to be effectively enabled to the grid and markets. On November 1st, Collaborative Utility Solutions will announce a non-profit DER Registry to solve this problem and help enable DERs for a cleaner, most cost-effective energy future. This briefing by attorney Michael Jewell will provide an overview of this DER Registry.

Licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1989, Michael Jewell has advised and represented telecommunications and energy clients, including companies and organizations focused on solar, wind, energy storage, and transmission issues, as well as large industrial consumers, energy brokers, and retail electric providers, before the Public Utility Commission of Texas, Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and the Texas Legislature. Michael also has been engaged in the Texas legislative arena working both in and out of the Capital for more than 35 years. Before practicing law in Texas, Michael earned his B.A. in Plan II from the University of Texas at Austin with concentrations in Mechanical Engineering, German, and Computer Programming. Michael earned his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in Austin. Michael is a frequent speaker before the Gulf Coast Power Association and at legal conferences, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Conservative Energy Network and is member of the Advisory Board of Conservative Texans for Energy Innovation.
