Professional Bio
Beth Garza served as the Director of the ERCOT Independent Market Monitor from 2014 - 2019 after serving as the Deputy Director since 2008. Beth was responsible for monitoring market participant activity, evaluating wholesale market operations and recommending improvements to the wholesale market design. Over the course of her 35-year career in the electric utility industry, Beth has held a variety of leadership roles in generation and transmission planning, system operations, regulatory affairs and market design for both regulated and competitive entities. Prior to joining Potomac Economics, Beth led ERCOT’s Congestion Analysis division for four years. In this role, she was the business lead for the development of ERCOT’s inaugural Congestion Revenue Rights market implemented as part of the conversion to a nodal energy market. Beth served as the Manager of Market Affairs, representing NextEra’s (then FPL Energy) interests in ERCOT for five years. Beth’s initial exposure to ERCOT was during her long tenure with Austin Energy. Beth received her Engineering degree from the University of Missouri and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
