emPOWERing Scholarships

Program Description

GCPA awards a total of up to $80,000 through our Partners. 

Goals
  1. Identify future industry leaders
  2. Assist Partner identified Candidates in achieving their educational goals
  3. Encourage and inspire students to pursue careers in the electric power industry
  4. Increase awareness of the GCPA emPOWERing programs by investing in education, and
  5. Support educational institutions across the regions in which GCPA operates. 

Eligibility Requirements 

The following are the eligibility requirements that the Board of Directors has determined meet these goals 

  1. US citizen or a foreign national with permanent residency
  2. Must be interested in careers in the electric power industry
  3. Preference for:
    • Undergraduate sophomores and those finishing the 1st year of their post-graduate degree in electric power industry related fields of study; and/or
    • Technical students enrolled in electric power industry trade programs; and/or
    • Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs creating a pipeline of female leaders prepared to enter the workforce in STEM industries where women are traditionally under-represented. 

The GCPA requires each Partner to:

  1. Select the students or STEM program with the best qualifications meeting the eligibility requirements.
  2. Provide GCPA with each student recipient’s’ name, educational institution with department, field of study, resumes, and contact information and required information for scholarship finding (bursar, financial aid, scholarship or treasury contact, student ID and any related required information)

The GCPA encourages the scholarship recipients to attend, as the guest of GCPA or Partner, a GCPA event, such as a conference or lunch meeting, to be recognized for their achievements.

Scholarships are funded through the annual GCPA operating budget.

The GCPA Executive Director shall make arrangements with the successful Candidates educational institution to distribute the scholarship funds.
