GCPA Honors Kim Casey with the 2025 Pat Wood Power Star Award
The Gulf Coast Power Association (GCPA) Board of Directors proudly announces Kim Casey as the recipient of the prestigious Power Star Award for 2025. This annual award honors individuals whose significant contributions have advanced competitive energy markets in Texas. The award will be presented during GCPA’s 38th Annual Spring Conference on April 14-16, 2025, in Houston, Texas.
Kim Casey served as the Executive Director of GCPA from 2019 to 2024, bringing over 30 years of extensive experience in the U.S. natural gas and power industry to the role. Her expertise spans strategic, financial, regulatory, and commercial management. Before leading GCPA, Casey was the Treasurer and Director of Finance & Regulatory for Electric Transmission Texas (ETT), a joint venture between American Electric Power and Berkshire Hathaway Energy Holdings. In this capacity, she managed finance, treasury, and regulatory functions for a $3 billion electric transmission utility.
Following 15 years in the regulated natural gas pipeline industry, Casey became one of the first wholesale power originators in the U.S. and contributed to the development of the initial ERCOT Protocols. At Dynegy, she demonstrated her innovative approach by originating numerous structured wholesale power contracts and overseeing the Texas power generation portfolio. She later co-founded Fulcrum, a nationwide energy management services company that evolved into a competitive retail electricity company and was ultimately acquired by Just Energy.
Casey has also served on the ERCOT Technical Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors for the Southwest Power Pool, and the GCPA, further underscoring her industry leadership.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana State University and attended the University of Virginia’s Darden Executive Management Program, equipping her with a strong foundation in finance and management within the energy sector.
GCPA Board President, Beth Garza, commented, “Kim's exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing competitive energy markets in Texas are inspiring. Her wealth of experience and strategic vision have significantly contributed to the industry and opened doors for future leaders. We are proud to honor Kim with this esteemed award.”
Pat Wood III, former PUCT and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman, added, “Kim Casey’s impact on the energy landscape in Texas is profound. Her dedication, knowledge, and innovative approach to challenges in the industry have set a standard for excellence. This award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of her contributions that have shaped competitive energy markets.”
