Since early 2011, the University of Texas-based Pecan Street Research Institute has carried out data intensive research on how people use electricity in their homes and businesses. Its original research measures one minute interval electricity use from 8 to 24 individual circuits plus the whole home, and it performs home energy audits on participating homes and businesses. This level of data makes it possible to isolate the impacts of factors such as appliance sizing and age, attic insulation levels and consumer demographics on peak demand profiles. Institute chief executive Brewster McCracken will present research findings from Pecan Street’s ongoing original research and provide analysis on applying these research insights to a range of utility and vendor products and services.
